It's an ever changing local food scene in Launceston - but when restaurants and cafes close, it's quite sad for both the owners and the patrons.

There have been 2 closures that particularly rocked the food loving people of Launceston.

Phoenix & the Wolf shut up shop despite enjoying enormous success. A sad loss to the restaurant scene particularly when it was receiving such fabulous reviews. The Grower's Market held in the quaint Perth church's grounds, will continue.

Another big blow which emerged last weekend, was the reveal that Garden of Vegan had packed up and shipped out.

There was such a flurry of excitement when Garden of Vegan re-opened in bigger & brighter premises. Catering to Vegans and foodies alike, the café's closure will leave a void on the Launceston foodscape.

Other closures include Flip Burgers after a 10 year successful stint & the Club Hotel at Beaconsfield. The

club's bottle shop will remain open throughout January. Damon Wecker has sold PX Tapas so it will be interesting to see what plans the new owners have. On a brighter note, Bryher Cafe has opened in George St. where This Café was situated. Lyndel and Max, owners of award winning This Café, decided to sell up and concentrate solely on their catering and sweet making business. Bryher offers a brilliant menu and will ensure the tradition of great food in that spot.

Another extremely popular eatery and café, Buntalk, closed down and thankfully will be re-opening.

The new location will be at Seaport, next to Spice Lounge, giving Seaport a foodie face lift. The expected opening date is late next week and the business has been renamed Youjing. The Seaport will be reinvigorated with the introduction of another choice of cuisine. ​And let's not forget Earthy Eats, which has been opened for several weeks now in the Kingsway - for super healthy options. Incorporatiing an eatery, smoothies, juices & greengrocer. An area for outdoor dining is featured on the side lending itself to this glorious weather.
